Blog 01- The Employee Onboarding Process

The Employee Onboarding Process

Daily, HR managers encounter a variety of issues, but none more pressing than employee recruiting and onboarding. The demand is unquenchable, but the talent pool is steadily shrinking. Despite the talent shortage, success in the search for the appropriate applicant has become more vital than ever. However, once you've found the ideal individual, you'll face even greater difficulty. If the new hire leaves for a greener pasture after spending countless hours searching for, finding, interviewing, and recruiting the perfect people, all of your hard work will be for nought, and you'll be back to square one.

What is employee onboarding?

The term "employee onboarding" is defined differently by each company. While the process is nearly identical, each onboarding program is distinct according to the time duration and responsibilities involved.

While some HR managers appear to regard the employee onboarding process as nothing more than new hire paperwork, more savvy and motivated team members have a different take on the purpose of employee onboarding. As part of employee onboarding, they consider the entire period from the time an offer is made until the time an employee becomes a productive contributor to the company.

The Importance of Employee Onboarding Process

An employee's first few days and weeks at work are generally covered by an onboarding procedure. Your employees will have the opportunity to connect with your work culture, get to know their peers and management, and gain a first impression of your company during this period. Even if it doesn't appear so, a good onboarding process can shift the scales in your company's favour. Employees at companies without a thorough onboarding procedure face uncertainty, bewilderment, and difficulty fitting into their new responsibilities.

Example of the great employee onboarding experience.

Apple, a company known for its goods, welcomes new employees with an equally fast onboarding method. The iBuddy concept was created to connect new employees with people who are well versed in the Apple culture. New employees are partnered with a current employee outside of their primary team to ask questions about their function, the firm and its culture, and work habits. The iBuddy concept works because it makes the newcomer feel at ease during the awkward phase. iBuddies are still relevant today, 30 years after their inception, and have been adopted by some of other companies, including Microsoft.
